History
With a background in cellular radio design, in particular femto-cell technologies, Niro Mahasinghe, and cellXica’s founding team, first came together in 2010 while working for an established cellular communciations specialist.
Building on proprietary 3G base station IP developed by Airvana, Niro, established a project team to develop nascent software defined radio methods – methods that would go on to form the foundations of the future cellXica.
By 2012, the first LTE (4G) capable platform – the SC5 – had been designed and shipped to customers. With sales success came market share and further product development.
By 2016 cellXica gained its independence, and own identity as a separate company, under the leadership of Niro Mahasinghe.
Notable milestones include the first public-service deployment of the new M3Q base station with Wavemobile in 2018, today serving over 1.5 million users, and successful real-world trials of the M5Q 5G NR during 2024. cellXica’s 7,000th cellular radio was installed in 2025.
